Books Read August – September 2018

Review books:

Beneath the Citadel by Destiny Soria – Cassa, orphaned daughter of rebels, tries to keep up all her parents had worked for and take down the government, who use prophecies to frighten Eldra’s citizens into following their strict rule. She has a small group of close allies by her side. Told in alternating viewpoints, with distinct voices and heaps of imagination, I loved the strength of friendship, romance and elements of magic. I am a big fan of this author’s debut, Iron Cast, so I couldn’t wait to read this new book. Beneath the Citadel is another impressive story, with a unique premise and characters to really root for.

A Storm of Ice and Stars by Lisa Lueddecke – Red lights appear in the sky over Skane as a warning of death. A plague is expected to sweep through the village. When fear drives the villagers to take drastic action to save themselves, the borders are closed and suspicion is high. Janna flees, setting out to travel across the frozen landscape to safety.

A cleverly written prequel to one of my favourite books, A Shiver of Snow and Sky. I couldn’t get enough of this world after the first book, so I was glad to be back on the snowy island of Skane with new characters. Beautifully atmospheric and a perfect winter read.
